Payload Studios is gearing up for the early access launch of TerraTech Worlds. Unlike a traditional sequel, founder and CEO Russ Clarke describes this new version as a successor to the original TerraTech. This reimagined game promises a more immersive experience, enhanced by a change in engine and fresh investment from Tencent.
Originally conceived as “the original game + stuff,” TerraTech Worlds underwent a transformation to reach its full potential. With a shift to Unreal Engine 5, the development team aimed to eradicate technical debt and optimize the simulation scale. Areas like mining, crafting, and base-building have been expanded and refined to offer a more engaging gameplay experience.
One of the key improvements in TerraTech Worlds is the overhaul of systems like mining, crafting, and base-building. The transition to spherical planets enhances the sense of location, while multiplayer modes now prioritize co-op and PvE experiences. The game’s block-based building mechanics have been revamped for better intuitiveness and customizability.
As TerraTech Worlds enters early access, players can expect a steady stream of updates and new features. Narrative elements, set-piece events, boss battles, and additional planets and biomes are all on the roadmap. The team is also working on a creative mode, aerial combat, and enhanced customization features to be introduced throughout the early access period.
With TerraTech Worlds set to launch on March 22nd, Payload Studios is on track to deliver a reimagined experience that builds upon the strengths of the original game. By focusing on player feedback and community insights, the team aims to create a game that honors the legacy of TerraTech while pushing the boundaries of open-world survival builders.
