WhatsApp has recently expanded the rollout of its Meta AI chatbots in select markets, including India and the US, and it seems that the messaging platform is now working on new artificial intelligence features. One of the new features that WhatsApp is reportedly developing is called ‘Imagine Me’, which will allow users to generate AI-generated photos of themselves.
The new ‘Imagine Me’ feature has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp for Android beta release. This optional feature will enable users to generate images of themselves using Meta AI. Users may have to upload a few reference selfies when they first opt into the feature. The feature is still in development and cannot be tested immediately after installing the beta version of WhatsApp on an Android device.
Once users take a set of photos, the Meta AI chatbot will create new AI images based on those photos. Users can request the AI to generate an image of themselves by typing “Imagine me” in the chat window. Additionally, this functionality can be accessed in other chats by typing “@Meta AI imagine me”. According to reports, users will have the option to choose new backgrounds and locations for their pictures, ranging from the forest to outer space, which can help in creating customized stickers. Users will also have the ability to delete the uploaded photos at any time through settings.
The personalized AI image-generating option is said to be optional, and users will have to manually turn it on in their settings. This feature is expected to be available in a future update, according to reports. This new feature is designed to offer users a fun and creative way to generate AI images of themselves, with the ability to customize backgrounds and locations.
Meta AI, WhatsApp’s ChatGPT competitor, was recently rolled out in India. The chatbot, powered by the in-house Llama 3 large language model (LLM), is also available on other Meta-owned platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. This expansion of Meta AI across various platforms indicates a growing trend towards integrating artificial intelligence into popular messaging services.
