A recent report by the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) has revealed that Instagram has not been successful in removing toxic comments directed at Vice President Kamala Harris and other prominent female politicians as the 2024 election approaches. The research conducted by the non-profit organization involved analyzing over 560,000 comments on Instagram posts from a selection of Republican and Democratic women politicians who receive high levels of engagement. The study uncovered more than 20,000 comments labeled as “toxic” by Google’s Perspective AI tool, with 1,000 comments violating Instagram’s terms of service.
CCDH CEO Imran Ahmed emphasized the importance of Instagram enforcing its policies aimed at safeguarding women in public life.
