Riot Games’ popular tactical shooter, Valorant, has been exclusive to PC since its launch in 2020. However, the developer has now revealed plans for a console version of the game, which will be available in a limited beta on the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S starting on June 14th. Gamers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, and Japan will have the opportunity to participate in the beta, with the possibility of it expanding to other global regions soon.
Gameplay Details and Cross-Progression
The console versions of Valorant will feature custom-built gameplay tailored to the unique characteristics of playing on a controller. Riot Games has emphasized that crossplay between console and PC will not be available for competitive reasons. However, the game will support cross-progression, allowing players to carry over their skins and progression between PC and console seamlessly. Production director Arnar Hrafn Gylfason expressed the team’s commitment to ensuring that Valorant’s core competitive gameplay feels natural on a controller, and mentioned that if they couldn’t deliver on this promise, they were prepared to walk away from the project.
Mobile Version Announcement
In addition to the console version, Riot Games also announced plans for a mobile version of Valorant in 2021. However, there have been minimal updates on the development of the mobile version since the initial announcement. Players are eagerly anticipating further details on this iteration of the game and how it will translate to the mobile gaming experience.
The expansion of Valorant to consoles opens up new opportunities for gamers to experience the popular shooter in a different format. With tailored gameplay for controllers and the option for cross-progression, players can now enjoy Valorant across multiple platforms without losing their progress. As Riot Games continues to evolve and expand the game, fans can look forward to new updates and features that will enhance the overall gaming experience.
