TikTok, the popular social media platform, is now testing out a new AI integration called “AI-moji.” This feature allows users to scan their faces and create cartoonish avatars for stickers in the app.
Users are being prompted to create their own AI-moji by scanning their faces within the app. This process generates a digital character that can be used to react to Stories, messages, and as stickers in chats. It is similar to avatar stickers on other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as well as Snap’s Bitmoji. However, TikTok’s version is powered by AI technology.
It may seem that the “AI” aspect of AI-moji is simply a reference to the current trend in technology, as similar avatar options have been available for some time. In fact, TikTok introduced its own 3D avatars in 2022, which are comparable to AI-moji. Despite this, AI-moji could still provide users with another engaging way to interact on the app through personalized digital characters.
TikTok’s Integration of AI
TikTok has been exploring various ways to incorporate AI into its platform, such as chatbots, search tools, music generation, and profile picture options. The parent company, ByteDance, is also experimenting with text-to-video translation through its “MagicVideo” project. This signals a growing trend of AI-generated content on TikTok, which could become more prevalent in the future.
While AI continues to be a hot trend in technology, its impact on social media remains to be seen. Some argue that AI-driven features may not necessarily enhance the social experience on platforms like TikTok. However, as apps strive to stay relevant and innovative, integrating AI tools is becoming increasingly common. AI-moji may not be a groundbreaking tool, but it adds another layer of creativity to TikTok interactions.
TikTok’s introduction of AI-moji reflects the ongoing trend of integrating AI into social media platforms. While the true impact of AI on social interactions remains uncertain, AI-driven features like AI-moji provide users with new ways to engage and personalize their online experiences.
