This feature, found under the Privacy > Advanced menu in the settings app, is designed to prevent messages from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume. The goal of this feature is to protect users’ accounts and ensure the smooth performance of the app on their smartphones.
In contrast to WhatsApp, Signal restricts messages from unknown accounts by default. Signal users are required to Accept, Block, or Report any conversation initiated by an unidentified user. This approach ensures that senders do not have access to read receipts until the recipient accepts the message request. The options provided by Signal prevent unknown senders from contacting the recipient in the future, enhancing user privacy and security.
WhatsApp beta testers now have the ability to react to status updates with a heart emoji. This feature, similar to Instagram stories, allows users to upload text, images, and videos for 24 hours. The heart icon for reacting to status updates can be found at the bottom right corner of the screen, next to the reply bar. Users can also view a list of contacts that have reacted to their stories, similar to the functionality on Instagram.
